Media Release – Virtual Hike for Hospice 2021

April 26, 2021

Walk a little … Jog a lot, bike, dance or skip rope for this year’s Virtual Hike for Hospice.

Beginning Sunday, May 2, and throughout the month of May, join hundreds of others in our community to remember loved ones and help raise funds for Hospice Simcoe.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19, our 2020 virtual event raised over $80,000. “We are so grateful to this community and our ‘hikers’ who continue to support us through this meaningful event. We could not provide the programs and services we do without your generosity.”
– Kelly Hubbard, Executive Director, Hospice Simcoe

The Hike for Hospice has become an annual tradition for many families and friends to honour the memories of their loved ones. We invite you to create a team, gather pledges, and walk to raise funds to support Hospice Simcoe’s services in your community.

This year, to honour your loved one, you can plant a hummingbird seed pack which will bloom into beautiful wildflowers. Plant this to kick off your own Hike day or take it to a special place that is meaningful to you. Seed packs and pledge forms are available in the vestibule at the Hospice Simcoe Residence (336 Penetanguishene Road, Barrie).

“Supporting Hospice Simcoe has always been important to us as a business and as a family. In 2015, my mom, who was also my business partner and Tara’s mother in-law, entered hospice care at Hospice Simcoe. Our experience was the absolute best of a bad situation. The staff provided my mom and family with the utmost care and comfort. We all felt like family from the moment we stepped in, and although we weren’t there for long, we could see what a tremendous impact this place makes every single day.
Hospice Simcoe lifts the burden of care taking and allows patients to die with dignity and peace. Their staff also greatly assist family members and friends to relax and focus on what is important; spending time with a loved one in their final days. It is truly tough to describe what a special place this is, but we feel forever grateful to their staff for what they have done for us and our family.  This is why we will continue to Hike for Hospice and encourage our friends and family to donate whenever they can to support this incredible and valuable resource in our community!”
– Kenzie

Thanks to our generous sponsors, all expenses for this event have been covered.  Therefore, 100% of the funds raised by participants will go directly to Hospice Simcoe’s programs and services.

Hospice Simcoe continues to provide all our programs and services at no cost.  Our operating expenses have not decreased.  If you are able to give, we need your support.
