June 2020 – The annual Hike for Hospice has become a tradition for many families and friends to honour the memories of their loved ones. Every year, we welcome participants to gather pledges and join us as you walk with family, friends and co-workers in support of Hospice Simcoe’s programs and services. This year our Hike is a virtual event.
We are grateful for over 700 participants who joined us last year and raised over $110,000!
The Virtual Hike for Hospice Simcoe will be held between September 25 and October 4.
Anne Francis, her daughter Amanda along with their family and friends organized their family team, ‘Team Nana’, to hike with us for the first time last year in memory of Anne’s mother. They have already committed to joining us again this year. For so many families, the Hike for Hospice has become a lovely way to annually remember loved ones.
“Hospice provided my Mom and our family with more than we ever could have expected. Our family spent every available moment at Hospice and my Dad lived there with my Mom. He was able to sleep side by side with his wife, he was fed like a king and he became one of the Hospice family. On our first night at Hospice, my Mom’s intake nurse told us that, “Hospice was not where you come to die but where you come to live before you pass.” The staff at Hospice proved this statement to be true with their care, support and dedication to fostering a welcoming environment for our whole family. As a family we are still lost without her but we feel connected to the place we called home for the last weeks of my Mom’s life. Hospice gave our family a beautiful gift; a safe space to share the last precious moments with my Mom. The memories we made in Hospice are dear to us and we feel blessed to have had the opportunity to be there. Our family has agreed that the least we can do to give a little back to the place that gave us so much, is to participate in the “Hike for Hospice” and fundraise for them”. Anne Francis and Amanda Medeiros.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, all expenses for this event have been covered. Therefore, 100% of the funds raised by participants will go directly to Hospice Simcoe’s programs and services.
Hospice Simcoe continues to provide all our programs and services at no cost. Our operating expenses have not decreased. If you are able to give, we need your support.
